Easter Outreach 2018

Family Meals, Inc. is getting ready for their  Easter Outreach 2018 and we need your help.  We will deliver meal ingredient food bags on Saturday, March 24  beginning at 7:00 in the morning at Trinity Lutheran Church (trinitychurch4u.com)  Fellowship Hall. We need lots of help.

If you are available to help unpack, pack, set up the distribution room at the church, sort potatoes, and help wherever needed either Friday, March 23  beginning at 1:00 and/or Saturday, March 24 beginning at 7:00 until noon, please sign up here:  https://www.volunteersignup.org/YC3DE

If you want to deliver our meal bags to families, please let us know by emailing

familymealsdrivers@gmail.com. You need a driver’s license and current auto insurance and will be asked to provide a copy of both. You also need a partner to help you. We never ask you to deliver to an area you feel unsafe. It is against our policy to deliver to anyone you know .

Statistics show children of families who share family meals have better grades, higher self-esteem, lower substance abuse, lower risk of depression, lower risk of eating disorders, lower rates of obesity and have a sense of belonging.  Simply sharing a family meal is the “magic bullet” families are looking for!

Family Meals’ volunteers are committed to showing families the importance of sharing a family meal. Family Meals, inc is not a food handout or a food pantry organization. Family Meals, Inc. is a 100% volunteer nonprofit, with no paid staff. If you can help us make a difference in our community, please let us know. We need you and encourage your suggestions and concerns.

This past Thanksgiving 2017 Family Meals, Inc. helped over 2,000+ families along the Treasure Coast! Family Meals, Inc.  was launched in 2012. In 2012 we helped 20 families. We’re humbled by your support.

Many local businesses are hosting food drives to help us off-set our food expenses. Please check our facebook page for additional  locations or look for our food drive signs and donate generously.    www.facebook.com/events/175658403211849

Family Meals receives Dyer Difference Award

dyer difference award

FORT PIERCE — Holidays are nearly all commemorated with a special meal. It’s a time for families to gather and share, celebrate, laugh, cry and make memories that will last a lifetime. For many in our area, though, holiday meals are a source of genuine anxiety.

Families who are among the working poor may not qualify for school lunches or food stamps, and other families simply fall through the financial cracks of the social services system. Fortunately, three times each year, Martha Taylor and the volunteers of Family Meals, Inc., coordinate outreach programs to gather donations of all the ingredients it takes to prepare a traditional family meal. Those ingredients are sorted, packaged and distributed to families in need, and it’s that tremendous teamwork and effort that caught the attention of the Dyer Difference St. Lucie Award Committee this month, garnering Family Meals the November Dyer Difference Award and a $3,000 check to help defray costs.

Taylor says that the goal of Family Meals is not to sustain families and residents throughout the year, but rather to provide three special holiday meals and the encouragement and ability to spend time together with family. She admits that many of the recipients of the specialty meals are hardworking members of the community for whom putting together a special holiday meal creates a genuine financial burden.

“Many of the individuals and families we serve are very proud and want to manage on their own,” said Taylor. “Our meal bags are full of staple ingredients which provide more than one meal. Often our recipients share their holiday meals with neighbors, extended family members, and friends or colleagues.” In 2015, more than 1,000 families were served by Family Meals, combining to create more than 4,500 meals.

Since relocating to the area in 2008, each month members of the Dyer Chevrolet Fort Pierce staff meet to review the applications that have been submitted and select one nonprofit organization to receive that month’s recognition and $3,000 award. For the Dyer family and the members of the Dyer Chevrolet Fort Pierce staff, it’s all about helping to make a positive difference in the community. For the recipients, it’s an acknowledgement of their tireless efforts to do the same and a much-needed financial boost to help further their missions.
